Scot Smithee
PRESS RELEASE
The City of Gilroy has selected Scot Smithee as its next Chief of Police. The appointment of Scot is scheduled to be considered at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting of June 19.
After a nationwide search, Scot Smithee was selected as the top candidate for Gilroys Police Chief. Scot Smithee brings over three decades of law enforcement experience to the City of Gilroy having served with Gilroy Police Department for over 29 years, retiring in July 2015 at the rank of Police Captain. As the tenured Captain of the department, Scot served as the second in command and was often the Acting Chief in the absence of the Chief.
I am pleased to welcome Chief Scot Smithee as Chief of Police to the City of Gilroy, said City Administrator Gabe Gonzalez. Scots community involvement, commitment and dedication to service, leadership skills and desire to take the Gilroy Police Department to the next level will be a great asset to our continued mission of providing excellent law enforcement services to our community.
I never imagined coming out of retirement to work in law enforcement again, but I love Gilroy said Scot Smithee. This is a great City with exceptional people. I am really looking forward to future opportunities to serve the Police Department, the City and our community.
Scot has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Saint Marys College. He is also a graduate of the State of California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Command College.
Chief Smithee is scheduled to officially start in his new position on August 1, 2017.
