WEDDINGS
Hansen/Ruvalcaba
Private Hansen, Thomas Gregory, grandson of Tom and Cynthia Hansen, and Tamara Ruvalcaba, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Ruvalcaba, were married on Feb. 10, 2007, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos.
The couple spent their wedding night at the Posada De San Juan Bautista.
Private Hansen was scheduled to return to Camp Pendleton, San Diego, where he will complete the advanced training required prior to his assigned tour of duty.
Tamara is employed at Rovella’s Gym and will temporarily reside in Hollister until she is able to join Private Hansen on base.

Cerdan/Harlan
Hope Nicole Cerdan and David Michael Harlan announce their engagement. Hope is the daughter of Erin and Gabriel Cerdan and David is the son of Shirley Harlan and stepson of Skeeter Schwert.
Hope is a 1998 graduate of Gilroy High School and is employed at Saint Louise Regional Hospital.
The wedding is planned for Aug. 18, 2007 at Berwick Park in Pacific Grove. The couple will honeymoon in Santa Barbara and Morro Bay.

Greg and Kathe Caudle of Gilroy have announced the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Caudle, to Jordan Thomas. Sarah is a 1999 graduate of Gilroy High School. Sarah studied communications at Baylor University in Texas and currently is the assistant athletic director and head softball coach at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose. Jordan is the son of Roger and Sue Thomas of Woodbridge. He is a 1999 graduate of Lodi High. Jordan graduated with an industrial technology degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he also received his masters in industrial technology. He is a project engineer at Preston Pipelines in Milpitas. The couple will wed September 1, 2007 at Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late Jesus and Victoria Valencia of Watsonville. The groom-to-be is the son of Ruben and Lupe Lujan.
The couple became engaged on Valentine’s Day during a surprise dinner at home.
HONORS
Jeffrey Lawson
Jeffrey Lawson, a partner with the Silicon Valley Law Group (SVLG) in San Jose, has been confirmed by the United States Senate to be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. Brig. Gen. Lawson is the Assistant to the Air Mobility Command Judge Advocate. In this role, Lawson oversees the legal operations (approximately 160 lawyers and paralegals) of 40 Air National Guard Wings assigned to Air Mobility Command.
Brig. General Lawson, age 54, resides in Morgan Hill and has served as a member of the California Air National Guard for 19 years. Lawson began his military career by enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1971. During his enlisted career he served in a direct air control center in Germany. After his Honorable Discharge in 1975 he graduated from San Jose State University in 1978 and UCLA School of Law in 1981. He is also a graduate of Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College. He was on active duty as a Judge Advocate at RAF Alconbury England and Hurlburt Field, Florida from 1982 through 1986.
Lawson and his wife Lucinda live in Morgan Hill. He has two daughters, Charlotte, a student at DeAnza Community College, and Kathleen, a student at Sobrato High School.
Lauren Bevilacqua
Chapman University announced that Lauren F. Bevilacqua, of Gilroy, was named to the Provost’s List for the fall 2006 semester. To achieve this academic recognition, students must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher in at least 12 credits of residence course work taken for a letter grade in a semester.
Chapman University, founded in 1861 and based in the city of Orange, is one of the oldest, most prestigious private universities in California. Known for its blend of liberal arts and professional programs, the university is comprised of eight schools and colleges.
Ricardo Flores
Army Reserve Pvt. Ricardo E. Flores has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
He is the son of Blanca Esquivel of Gilroy, and brother of Mark Martinez of Watsonville. Flores is a 2006 graduate of Mount Madonna High School.
Christopher Penn
Air Force Airman Christopher S. Penn has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
He is the son of Stephen and Lori Penn of Morgan Hill. Penn is a 2005 graduate of Live Oak High School.

Jason Robert Warren, son of Marion Warren of Gilroy, recently graduated from Montreat College in North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in history.
Elyse Wallash
Elyse Marjorie Wallash made the Deans’ Honors List for fall quarter 2006 at the University of California, Davis. The Deans’ Honor List is those students whose GPA is equal to or higher than the minimum GPA attained by the upper 16 percent of those registered in the same class level and college.
Sarah Penkethman
Sarah Penkethman of Gilroy has been named to the Dean’s List at Wagner College of New York City for the fall 2006 semester. This distinction is awarded to students who have earned a semester GPA average of 3.5 or better.

Oliver Walker has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall of 2006 at Biola University.
The Dean’s List honors those students who earned a semester grade point average of 3.60 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credit units and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.20.
Biola University is a Christian liberal arts university located in La Mirada.
