Military

Lane Jeffrey Lance

Lane Jeffrey Lance, the son of Giloy residents Lynn and Jean Lance, was promoted to the rank of Colonel in the United States Army on Aug. 4. Colonel Lance is currently serving as the Chief of Plans for the United States Security Coordinator mission based in Jerusalem, Israel. Lance’s wife, Debby, traveled to Jerusalem to witness the event.

Lance graduated from Gilroy High School in 1972, spending most of his high school years wearing Future Farmers of America “blue and gold” and chasing his early dream to be a cowboy. After high school, he worked on a ranch in Nevada before becoming a Mormon missionary in France.

He joined the Arizona Army National Guard in 1981 and has been on active duty in the U.S. Army since he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1984. He started his career as an infantry officers and later served in airborne units. He then joined the Green Berets, serving in Special Forces until 1999. He volunteered to go to Baghdad for 2005-06 to work with the Ministry of Interior, helping to establish their Criminal Intelligence Service.

Lance’s father, Lynn Lance, taught for more than 30 years at Brownell and at the high school, and his mother, Jean, taught music at schools throughout the Gilroy area.

CELEBRATIONS

Emma Luna Fukumoto

Brian and Becky Fukumoto are celebrating the adoption of their first child, Emma Luna. The proud parents traveled more than 10,000 miles round-trip to Chongqing, China, before bringing Emma home Sept. 29, 2006. Emma was born Aug. 27, 2005. She loves imitating sounds and listening to music.

Hanson-Brandon

Jenna Hanson, daughter of Laura Picot of Morgan Hill and Dane Hanson of Hollister, and Drew Brandon, son of Dr. Bill and Melissa Brandon of Hollister were married July 14, 2006. Their wedding took place at Leal Vineyards in Hollister.

The couple lives in San Luis Obispo. Drew, a recent graduate of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, is employed with Verizon as a business associate. Jenna is an animal science major at Cal Poly while working as a vet technician for a local animal hospital. The couple enjoyed a 10-day honeymoon in Hawaii.

Campbell-Kruse

Blair Campbell and Peter Kruse will be married in the spring in San Francisco. Blair is the daughter of Colin and Nancy Nash Campbell of Williamsburg, Va. She is a graduate of Pomona College and a free-lance writer. Peter, who grew up in Gilroy, is assistant winemaker for Roche Winery in Sonoma County. He is the son of Susan Lynch Kruse of Gilroy, and local vintners Thomas and Karen Kruse.
