Clark and Patricia Gellings of Morgan Hill announce with great pleasure the engagement of their daughter, Nicole M. Gellings to Sean C. Lowe.
Nicole is a 1996 graduate of Live Oak High School. She received her B.S. in Biology from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), where she was on the rowing team for three years. She is currently working on a Ph.D in Cell and Molecular Biology in a joint program at UCSD and San Diego State University.
Sean is a 1991 graduate of Goddard High School in Roswell, N.M. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico Institute of Technology. He is currently employed at Titan Corporation in San Diego as a Hardware Design Engineer.
The couple is planning an Oct. 23, 2004 wedding celebration at the Ponte Family Estate Winery in Temecula, Calif.
Cari Piombo and Ryan Keller
Richard and Deborah Piombo of Lodi are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Cari Piombo, to Ryan Keller of Stockton.
The couple announced their engagement at a family gathering on Aug. 15. They will marry July 16, 2005.
Cari, who lives in Concord, is a 1994 graduate of Ursuline Catholic High School in Santa Rosa and a 2000 graduate of Sonoma State University. She is employed at the Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves in Sonoma where she works in human resources. She is the granddaughter of John and Betty Ciulla of Rio Vista and Anna Piombo of San Francisco.
Ryan is a 1995 graduate of San Benito High School and a 2000 graduate of Sonoma State University. He is currently employed at Pace Supply in Stockton where he works in outside sales. His parents are Keith and Linda Keller of Hollister. He is the grandson of Leonard and Beverly Poletti of Hollister, and George and Minnie Keller of Gilroy.
Lauren E. Hinsley and Harlan D. Crandall
Ms. Darla Andresen proudly announces the engagement of her daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Hinsley, 23, to Harlan David Crandall, 26.
Lauren graduated from Live Oak High School, Morgan Hill in 1999. She has since attended DeAnza College and San Jose State.
Harlan, who was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, grew up in Maine and Alaska. After attending the University of Alaska in Fairbanks he moved to San Jose to work for Aramark Co. There he met Lauren through mutual friends.
Harlan now works for the same company in Denver, Colorado, where he proposed to Lauren in May amid the snowy views of Estes Park in the Rocky Mountains. His mother, Denise Dutile, lives in Alaska. Father Crandall’s father Daniel lives in Iowa.
A wedding is set for October 22, 2004 in Gilroy.

Meghan E. Muscato and Thomas M. Schatz
Meghan Ellen Muscato and Thomas Michael Schatz were married July 30, 2004 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gilroy. The couple exchanged vows in front of their family and friends at sunset in an outdoor wedding officiated by Pastor Josh O’Green. A reception followed in the clubhouse ballroom.
Meghan is a graduate of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill and California State University, Sacramento. The daughter of Peg Muscato of Santa Cruz and Michael and Mary Muscato of Morgan Hill is a middle school science teacher in the Hollister School District.
Tom, also a Live Oak High School Graduate, is also an alumnus of California State University, Stanislaus. The son of Judy and Lewis Schatz of Morgan Hill is a middle school physical education teacher in the Hollister School District.
The bride’s twin sister, Amy Muscato of Santa Cruz, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaid included sister Julie Muscato of Grass Valley and friend Shannon Smith of Sacramento. The groom’s uncle, Tom Turcol of Gresham, Oregon, served as best man. The groomsmen were Erin Cockrell of Morgan Hill and Aaron Misasi of Lodi.
After honeymooning in Barcelona, Spain and the Canary Islands, the happy couple returned to Hollister.
Shannon McShane and Joseph Bowman
Shannon McShane and Joseph Bowman were wed on July 10, 2004 at the Community Church of Monterey, Carmel.
Shannon is the daughter of Michael and Kathy McShane and Joseph is the son of Joe and Carmen Bowman.
The bride wore a fitted silk trumpet-style gown for the ceremony which featured a soloist bagpiper.
Matrons of Honor were Firoza, Debbie, Melissa, Kelly and Trette. The groomsman were Colin, Jim, Cody, James and Tim who were joined by ring bearer Blaze McShane and flower girl Nina Umanzio.
A reception for 110 followed at Ranch Canada Golf Club in Carmel Valley.
Shannon is a graduate of Monterey Interior Design School. Joseph graduated from Humboldt State with a degree in Psychology. He now owns his own business. The couple spent their honeymoon in the French Polynesian islands, Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. They are now home in San Juan Bautista.

Honors
Natalie C. Cochran
Natalie C. Cochran, daughter of Mary Beth and Todd Cochran of Hollister, has been accepted to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, Calif.
Natalie is a graduate of Columbia Union College and entered the Doctor of Dental Surgery Program along with 90 other students in September 2004. Natalie is scheduled to complete her professional training in June 2008.
Loma Linda University is a co-educational institution run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is located about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Founded in 1905, the health science campus has a student body of approximately 3,500 in its Schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and the Graduate School.
Monterey Mushrooms Awards
The following area students were honored with scholarships from Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. of Watsonville, which has awarded over $700,000 in the past 11 years to over 400 dependent children of its employees, including $110,000 to 63 students for 2004-2005: Fernando Serrato of Morgan Hill, $1,500 (renewed scholarship); Carlos Hernandez of Morgan Hill, $1,000 (renewed scholarship); Cindy Hernandez of Morgan Hill, $2,000; Ajit Singh of Morgan Hill, $850; Maria Garcia of Morgan Hill, $700; Jackelin Solorio of Morgan Hill, $500.
Military
Pvt. Yesenia Juarez Robles
Pvt. Yesenia Juarez Robles, a 2003 graduate of San Benito High School, recently had a three-week leave from her duties in Iraq to visit family and friends in Hollister. Pvt. Robles is an E-3/PFC who has been qualified on the M16 Rifle, M249 Machine Gun, German Weapons and .50-Caliber.
She has spent the last year in Iraq in the towns of Taji, Fallujah, Arafjan, Karbala, in the Green Zone, and has lived in Baghdad with her Army Company of about 500 other soldiers. She returned to her station in Germany (Camp Anderson in Dexheim) on Sept. 1. She expects to return to Iraq in July 2005.
Her family was delighted to have her home for three weeks and she enjoyed seeing her friends, shopping and eating her mother’s great food.
Pvt. Robles plans to re-enlist and take advantage of the opportunities the Army has to offer. Her long-term goal is to be a surgeon.
Her family and friends are proud of what Pvt. Robles and her Army Company is doing for our country. They wish her good luck ang God speed for a safe return to many more homecomings.
Pfc. Shawn R. Smith
Army National Guard Pfc. Shawn R. Smith has graduated from the light-wheel vehicle mechanic advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. The student was trained to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair wheeled vehicles and related mechanical components, including suspension systems, internal combustion engines and power trains, spark- and compression-ignition engines, wheel-hub assemblies, hydraulic brake and steering systems, and operate a wheeled vehicle crane, hoist, and winch assemblies.
He is the son of Cameron R. and Judy A. Smith of Hollister. Smith is a 2001 graduate of San Andreas Continuation High School, Hollister.
Lance Cpl. Alexander A. Ganzel
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Alexander A. Ganzel has returned from his seven-month deployment with the 22nd Marine Expiditionary Unite, which is based at Camp Lejeune, N.C. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan, the Arab Gulf and the Mediterranean Sea during their time abroad.
Ganzel and his unit were responsible for the confiscation and destruction of more than 10,000 pieces of ordinance, explosives and weapons while in Afghanistan. They also helped 58,000 Afghanis register to vote and treated more than 2,000 medical and dental patients. They were involved in more than 12 major combat offensivesas part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Ganzel is the son of Debra S. and John A. Ganzel of Gilroy, CA. He was also a 2002 graduate of Gilroy High School, joining the Marine Corps in July 2002, just after graduation.
Staff Sgt. Camilo J. De La Cueva
Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Camilo J. De La Cueva recently took part in operations in Najaf, Iraq as part of the more than 2,100 Marines and Sailors assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) stationed at Forward Operatin Base Hotel, Iraq.
The MEU battled Muqtada al-Sadr and his militia in the opening days of fighting at a huge cemetary sacred to Shia Muslims near the mosque where al-Sadr and his supporters were ensconced. Fighting ceased August 28 and they are now working to restore normalcy for the people of Najaf. Immediate concerns include preparing schools and reconstructing hospitals, roads and bridges. De La Cueva’s unit is an expeditionary intervention force combining air and ground personnel with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment.
De La Cueva is the son of Jenny P. and Camilo De La Cueva of Gilroy, Calif. He joined the Marine Corps in November 1992.
