Ruth Goldsmith celebrated her 100th birthday on Feb. 10. Forty-three family members representing five generations joined many friends at a wonderful party at Richard and Laurie Goldsmith’s house. Those attending included Ruth’s sister Mardy Thomas of Oxnard, son Glenn Goldsmith and his wife Jane of Kauai, Hawaii, daughter Mardy Ratliff and her husband Bob from Texas, and daughter Gerry from Washington.

Huffman/Secrease
Melissa Huffman, of Paso Robles, is engaged to Robert Secrease, also of Paso Robles.
Melissa is the daughter of Rick and Karen Huffman, formerly of Morgan Hill. She is a 2004 graduate of Paso Robles High School and received a degree from Cuesta Community College in December 2007. She is continuing with additional studies and is currently employed with Heritage Ranch Homeowners Association.
Robert is the son of Shirley Secrease of Paso Robles, and Ron Secrease of Alvarado, Texas. He is a 2000 graduate of Paso Robles High School and is currently employed with Heritage Ranch Owners Association.
The couple plan a March 2009 wedding and honeymoon in Lake Tahoe and will reside in Paso Robles.

Kristin Huffman, of Paso Robles, is engaged to Brad Betschart, also of Paso Robles.
Kristin is the daughter of Rick and Karen Huffman, formerly of Morgan Hill. She is a 2000 graduate of Live Oak High School and is currently employed with Case Pacific.
Brad is the son of Larry and Karen Betschart of Paso Robles. He is a 2001 graduate of Paso Robles High School and is currently employed with Whittaker Construction.
The couple plan to wed Oct. 4, 2008 in Paso Robles. They will honeymoon in Hawaii and return to reside in Paso Robles.

Makayla Rose Castro was born Feb. 8, 2008 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Jennifer and Leopoldo Castro of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces.

Melaya Marie Soto was born Feb. 8, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to parents Yvette Soto and Jose Soto, Jr. of Gilroy. She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces.
Dylan Michael Ayala
Dylan Michael Ayala was born Feb. 6, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to parents Kellie and Luis Ayala of Morgan Hill. He weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces.
HONORS
Victor Rubalcaba
Army Pvt. Victor J. Rubalcaba has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills.
He is the son of Sorell Tamez of Hollister and nephew of Javier Cano of San Jose. The private is a 2005 graduate of San Benito High School.
Randall O’Connor
Randal O’Connor was named to Northeastern University’s dean’s list for the fall semester. O’Connor is an honors student and among some 1,800 students involved in the honor’s program. He is from Gilroy.
