ENGAGEMENT: Martinez/Debniak: Vanessa Rosita Martinez and Alex Debniak are engaged to be married.
Vanessa, daughter of Marina and Sergio Martinez of Hollister,
earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from CSU Stanislaus and a master’s in education from San Jose State.
Alex, son of Kyle and Mark Debniak of Hudsonville, Mich., earned a bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford University.
The couple plans a Feb. 28, 2015 wedding in Morgan Hill and will reside in Alameda.
HONORS
Alexander Hughes
Alexander Hughes, of Hollister, earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental resource management in December 2014 from the IRA Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University where he was recognized as the outstanding graduate in his program.
ASU is the largest public university by enrollment in the United States. Since 2005 ASU has been ranked among the top research universities, public and private, in the U.S. based on research output, innovation, development, research expenditures, number of awarded patents and awarded research grant proposals.
Alex will continue his studies at Purdue University where he has been accepted into the occupational and environmental health science graduate program.
Lucas Wafelbakker
Lucas Wafelbakker, a senior finance major at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has made the Leeds School of Business dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester. The dean’s list requires that a student hold a 3.6 or better GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 graded credit hours of coursework for the given semester. This achievement ranks Lucas among the top students at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Alex Taves
Alex Taves, son of Phil and Nancy Taves, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America, effective as of Dec. 18, 2014. Alex has twice previously been elected to the position of senior patrol leader amongst other Troop 792 positions.
His Eagle Scout project was performed at the Compassion Center of Gilroy where he and many members of his troop repainted the interior.
After graduating from Christopher High School this coming June, Alex hopes to attend either UC Berkeley, San Jose State University, San Francisco State University or Santa Clara University.

Nevaeh Perez
Nevaeh Valene Perez was born Jan. 13, 2015 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Nichole Molina and Richard
Perez of San Jose. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.
