Plants stay alive
GILROY – Robert Silvia scored 15 points Thursday as Gilroy Young Plants survived in the Men’s E League Championship Series with a 45-40 nod over Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nilo at Solorsano Gymmnasium.
Gilroy Young Plants squared the best 2-of-3 series at 1-1 with the finale Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Solorsano Gym.
Three series were extended to a third game after competition Thursday. FFC defeated Gaeta’s Taqueria 66-59 in the Men’s C series, while Above the Rim powered past the Sparks 53-40 in Women’s League play.
Beale Properties has a 1-0 lead in the Men’s D League play, with the second game scheduled Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Solorsano. FFC and Gaeta’s compete Tuesday at 9 p.m. for the awards, with the Sparks and Above the Rim meeting Wedneday at 7 p.m. for the title.
Ed Saunders and Manny Burns each scored 10 points to aid the Gilroy Young Plants cause. Danny Rodriguez drained four three-point field goals in the way to 18 points for Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nilo. Gilroy Young Plants trailed 20-19 at the intermission.
Neil Garrett popped in 19 points as FFC trimmed Gaeta’s Taqueria. Darwin Collins, Shawn Hennessy and Sergio Montenegro each struck for 11 points for FFC. David Herrrera produced 16 points, Mark Cisneros 15 for Gaeta’s Taqueria.
Heather Stewart posted 13 points and Marta Salas logged 12 as Above the Rim defeated the Sparks. Melanie Arner scored 13 points and Yesenia Flores and Lilia Flores each scored eight for the Sparks.
