Eleven players on the Gilroy High football team, which finished
the season with a 9-2 record and an appearance in the Central Coast
Section Open Division playoffs, received recognition for their
individual play this season as the Tri-County Athletic League
announced its season-ending awards.
GILROY – Eleven players on the Gilroy High football team, which finished the season with a 9-2 record and an appearance in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs, received recognition for their individual play this season as the Tri-County Athletic League announced its season-ending awards.

Seven Mustangs were placed on the First Team All-TCAL squad, while four others were named to the second team.

Quarterback Jamie Jensen, receiver Dante Fullard and center Ray Gonzales were part of the first-team offense. Safeties Tony Travis and Richie Sotelo, defensive end Brandon Elam, and linebacker Logan Sweeney were nominated to the first-team defense.

Sweeney is the only junior on that list, as the six others are all seniors.

Jensen shared the Offensive Player of the Year award with Palma quarterback David Fales, and Fullard shared Athlete of the Year award with Palma receiver Bret Chernetsky.

North Salinas’s Mark Ramos was named TCAL MVP.

Gilroy, Palma and North Salinas shared the TCAL title. Each squad had a 5-1 record in league.

Linebacker Lukas Fortino and defensive end Chris McMurray were named to the TCAL second-team defense, while fullback Peter Guenther and guard Jose Mendoza were part of the Second-Team offense. All four are seniors.

Coaches Award – Jose Mendoza

Offensive MVP – Dante Fullard

Most Improved – Nico Sandoval
