A Redwood City man was arrested in Morgan Hill after his girlfriend’s 7-year-old daughter told a gas station clerk to call police.
Victor Salas, 26, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, carrying a concealed weapon, armed criminal action, resisting arrest, preventing a person from making a police report and child endangerment.
At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the child ran into the Chevron gas station on East Dunne Avenue and told the clerk the boyfriend was attacking her mother. The clerk called police, and when they arrived, they saw a man and woman apparently in an argument by a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle the clerk described.
The man, later identified as Salas, had his hands in his pockets when officers approached and refused to make eye contact, according to Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. Officers asked him repeatedly to show his hands, but he refused, and when officers grabbed his arm he struggled, police said.
When he was handcuffed, Salas told officers he had a loaded pistol, which was found in his front pocket.
The woman, who is a San Mateo resident, had bite marks on her arm but refused medical treatment, Neumayer said. The girl and another child, a 1-year-old, were taken to the police station while their mother was interviewed by officers, and were later released to their mother after an emergency protective order was arranged by a judge on call.
