Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old Hispanic male who was shot near the intersection of Monterey Road and Farrell Avenue about 3 p.m. Monday.

The victim was driven by an unknown motorist to a local hospital where he died from gunshot wounds, Sgt. Jim Gillio said.

Police are looking for the shooter, who fled the scene.

Several residents said they saw police cars in the area, but did not hear anything.

“I can’t believe I didn’t hear anything,” said Bernie Keeling, a five-year Farrell Avenue resident said. “You’d expect everyone to know what happened, but people kind of keep to themselves around here.”

Farrell Avenue between Severance Street and Monterey Road was closed while police worked the crime scene. Although police have not determined if the crime was gang-related, the Anti-Crime Team is investigating.

More on this developing story will be posted as information becomes available.
