The Cougars got on the board early, scraping together three runs
after two outs
Mariza Rodriguez was dialed in Thursday.
Even when Watsonville wanted to intentionally walk her in her third at-bat of the afternoon, Rodriguez managed to toss a wrinkle into that plan.
“They let one get a little too inside and she ripped a base hit,” CHS softball manager Larry Nabzeska said.
Rodriguez’s 3-for-3, three RBI performance propelled the Cougars to a 7-1 victory over the Wildcatz in Monterey Bay League action.
The Wildcatz did eventually give Rodriguez the free pass in her fourth plate appearance.
“I was satisfied. It was a decent game,” Nabzeska said.
The Cougars got on the board early, scraping together three runs after two outs in the first inning, including Olivia Barajas’ RBI triple.
Aly Olvera, who went the distance in the circle, also added two hits.
CHS moves to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the MBL after ending the week, which began with a sour 4-2 loss to Seaside on Tuesday, on a more positive note.
