There isn’t a much better way to start a game than the five straight hits and four runs the Christopher High softball team put up on visiting Monte Vista Christian en route to a 6-1 victory Thursday in Gilroy.

Janae Estrada, Kayla Medrano, Aly Olvera, Mariza Rodriguez and Olivia Barajas were responsible for the first inning fireworks with the biggest noise coming on Olvera’s two-run double and Barajas’ two-run triple.

Barajas finished with a 3 for 3 afternoon and three RBI.

Kristen Dennis drove in the Cougars’ (11-3 overall, 5-2 Monterey Bay League) other run on a fielder’s choice.

Olvera struck out nine to get the win in the circle.

CHS also defeated Del Mar in a rout, 16-1, on Tuesday. The Cougars plated nine runs in the second in the blowout effort.
