A Texas man was arrested Monday afternoon on U.S. 101 after he was seen speeding and then allegedly tried to get away as a CHP officer chased him.

Adam C. Butler, 26, of Cedar Park, Texas, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on a $158,000 bail for charges of allegedly attempting to evade or elude a peace officer, resisting arrest and battery against a peace officer.

According to information from the CHP report, Butler was driving southbound on the highway near San Martin Avenue and was reported by several motorists to be driving erratically on a flat rear tire.

CHP officer Monte Thompson set up to wait for Butler just north of Castro Valley Road. He then saw Butler pass by at a high rate of speed. He noticed the rear tire was completely flat, and the vehicle was riding on the bare metal wheel rim.

Thompson attempted to stop Butler, but he did not respond, even allegedly attempting to ram the patrol car as well as another vehicle on the road. Thompson continued to pursue Butler, and finally “pinned” Butler’s vehicle just north of San Juan Road.

Butler was not injured during the maneuver and struggled briefly with Thompson before he was taken into custody.
