Fitness expo at Max Muscle
GILROY – Max Muscle sports nutrition and training gear supply store will be hosting a fitness expo Saturday, July 12 in front of its location at 8025 Kern Avenue off First Street in Gilroy.
The first-time event – which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – will feature figure competitor Elaine Goodled; main muscle technician Aaron ‘Mr. Intensity’ Maddron; and fitness pro Laurie Vaniman. All three will be on hand signing autographs and taking pictures with attendees.
In addition, Max Muscle is having a storewide sale of 10 percent off all its merchandise. There will also be vendors on site – including Cyto Sport, Pro Lab, Diamond Nutrition, San Worldwide, Sports Specific, and Mat-rx – with free samples.
Free girls golf clinics at Eagle Ridge GC
GILROY – Director of Instruction Scott Krause, a PGA Class ‘A’ Professional, will be running a free six-week girls golf clinic at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Gilroy.
The clinic – which starts at 10 a.m. and has dates on July 7, 14, 21, 28, as well as August 4 and 11 – is open to the first 12 girls to sign up in the Eagle Ridge Golf Shop. Please call and reserve your spot.
Clinics will be designed to help the junior girl golfer improve her game. Topics covered are swing and stance fundamentals, pitching and chipping, putting, course management, drills and much, much more.
This is a free clinic sponsored by a grant from the Pacific Women’s Golf Association.

Reek Run starts at Gavilan College
GILROY – The annual Reek Run is scheduled for July 12, starting at Gavilan College.
The main 10K Run will begin at 8 a.m. at the southeast corner of Gavilan College Football Field. The 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:15 a.m.

Nightlite Junior Golf Tournament at Gilroy GC
GILROY – Are you afraid of the dark?
Because Gilroy Golf Course will once again be kicking off its summer junior golf schedule with their second annual ‘Midnight Madness Nightlite Golf Tournament’.
The tournament is open to junior golfers from ages 10-17 and will be held at Gilroy Golf Course on Friday, July 11.
The event is played in the dark with glow in the dark golf balls. The festivities start at 7:30 p.m. with a putting tournament followed by a hamburger bbq at 8 p.m.
The six-hole tournament will start approximately 8:30 p.m. and end by 11 p.m. Entry for the event is $30 which includes golf, dinner, glow in the dark ball and prizes. The field is limited to the first 48 golfers. To sign up, please call Gilroy GC at 848-0490.
Free golf lessons for Hispanic Youth
GILROY – Eagle Ridge Golf Course will once again hold free golf lessons for Hispanic Youth starting June 29 at noon and running through the summer as part of a PGA Grant for ‘Growth of the Game’ projects.
Director of Instruction Scott Krause – who began the free clinics last summer – will open classes on Sundays for two hours and then expand to other days or times based on participation.
Hispanic youngsters ages 17 and under will be supplied with golf equipment on site. Then they will be given instruction from Krause – a PGA Class ‘A’ Professional who also is the head coach for the Gavilan College men’s golf team.
