GILROY—It was a back and forth game between Gavilan and Cosumnes River in the CCCAA Northern California Regional Playoffs opener. If one team got a hit, the other would answer. A big defensive play by either side was matched in the next inning. Neither team could gain the edge—until the top of the ninth inning, that is.

The Rams' season may not have gone according to plan, but they ended things on a high note.

Gavilan suffered two tough one-point losses over the weekend at the hands of Skyline College and the College of San Mateo. 

An Adam Kocina homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Gavilan the lead over Monterey Peninsula and the Rams wouldn't give it back.

MORGAN HILL – An 18-point deficit in the second quarter proved too much for the Gavilan Rams to overcome as the visiting West Valley Vikings edged the home team 18-14 at Live Oak High School Saturday afternoon.

However, an unfathomable 3-pointer and a pair of Panthers free throws carried Hartnell to a 76-73 win over the Rams.

A 20-7 run to start its match against host Hartnell College, the Gavilan College women's volleyball team closed the first half of Coast Conference South play with a 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 triumph Wednesday night in Salinas.
