Prep Football: Gilroy, Christopher fall in Week 6
SALINAS—Things didn't go as planned for Gilroy or Christopher Friday as both teams left Salinas with a loss. The Mustangs fell 21-7 to Alisal, while the Cowboys sent the Cougars home with a 41-7 loss.

SALINAS—Gilroy’s Monica Ruelas continues to solidify her reputation as one the Monterey Bay League’s top female runners. The junior Mustang took home her second straight first place finish at Wednesday’s MBL-Pacific Center Meet No. 2 at Toro Park.

The Christopher JV squad was handed its first loss of the season, falling 16-13 to Palma at home Oct. 2.Â

GILROY—The Christopher girls tennis pulled out a 4-3 win over Everett Alvarez Tuesday at home but the Eagles didn’t make it easy. Three of the day’s matches needed a tiebreaker to decide a winner and ended with the Cougars on top each time.

GILROY—Christopher had no answer for the red hot Samantha Phipps Monday as she struck for four goals in Gilroy’s 5-2 win in field hockey.

GILROY—The Cougars girls golf team notched its second victory of the year, besting Alisal 332-335 in a closely contested match Wednesday at home.
Prep Football: Cougars drop league opener to Palma 35-14
GILROY—Interim Cougar coach Aaron Bembry gave his players a challenge at halftime. He told them they could either pack it in or show Palma their true character. They gave him an answer almost immediately and emerged as a different team in the second half. But unfortunately for the home team, it ran out of time and fell 35-14 Friday to the Chieftains.

Gilroy came up just shy in the battle of the Mustangs girls tennis contest Thursday against Monte Vista Christian at home. The hometown squad lost 4-3.

The Christopher boys water polo finished off the first half of the season with a 22-9 thrashing of San Lorenzo Valley Tuesday at home.
