Football coaches from the Monterey Bay League and the Tri-County Athletic League met Wednesday and voted on the placement of the leagues' teams in next year's equity league.

The Christopher High football team played up to its billing as the No. 1-seed in a 55-0 drubbing of No. 8 Del Mar in the opening round of the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs Friday night in Gilroy.

Three years after the program's inception, two weeks after earning a share of its first league title and two days after defeating crosstown rival Gilroy High in the second annual Severance Bowl, the Christopher High football team notched the No.1-seed into the Division III bracket of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

With the chance to qualify for the state meet on the line, the Central Coast Section's top cross country runners converged on the visually inspiring yet physically challenging 2.95-mile Crystal Springs course in Belmont on Saturday.

After running a little more than six miles up and down the undulating terrain of Christmas Hill Park, members of the Gilroy High boys and girls cross country teams were still bubbly as they gobbled Goldfish and other snacks after Wednesday's practice.

It can't be called a streak until it's more than one, and the Christopher High football team made sure it's first loss of the year last week didn't transition into its second against North Monterey County on Friday night.

The Christopher High girls volleyball team made quick work of host North Monterey County, sweeping the Condors 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 on Thursday night in Castroville.

After vaulting out to a 2-0 lead, the Gilroy High varsity volleyball team withstood an Alisal comeback to eventually topple the Trojans 3-2 (25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 31-33, 15-13) in Salinas on Tuesday night.

Overtime has been no stranger to the Gilroy High field hockey team this season.
