All the hard work Gilroy put in over the summer looks to have paid off.

SAN MATEO—The Cougars had to battle not only Hillsdale, but the wind, too—and they didn’t let either get the best of them.

If the Christopher High boys water polo team ends up winning the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division championship this season, it will look back to Thursday’s match against host San Benito as the one that catapulted it to title glory.

GILROY—Christopher fell just four points shy of beating Carmel and going 3-0. But with all the things the Cougars did right against the Padres, they aren’t hanging their heads.

GILROY—When it comes to Christopher and Santa Catalina, eight is the magic number.

CARMEL—Heading into Saturday’s contest Christopher coach Tim Pierleoni said Carmel would be one of the team’s toughest opponents all season—and he was right.

GILROY—The score of the Christopher and Gilroy volleyball game was quickly forgotten by the players Thursday night. After the match, Cougars and Mustangs talked, laughed and posed for pictures together and for the seniors, the evening was bittersweet.
