Prep Football: Cougars look to go 2-0 at home, move closer to South County title
After a 12-6 win in the season opener, Christopher now has its eyes fixed on Live Oak. The Acorns, which beat Gilroy 31-21, and Cougars are 1-0 heading into this week and a win for either will put them one step closer to being South County champions. Christopher, which beat Sobrato, Live Oak and Gilroy last season, are the defending champs but it won’t be an easy task defending the title.

The Gilroy field hockey team started its season off on the right foot, going undefeated at the Varsity Jamboree tournament Saturday at Saratoga. Morgan Rogars was one of the top scorers for the Mustangs, who topped Los Altos 4-0, Saratoga 1-0 and tied with Archbishop Mitty 1-1. Coach Adam Gemar also noted Cathy Carbajal and Carli Colyer as standouts from the tournament.  Gilroy (2-0-1) will host North Salinas at 3:30 p.m. Thursday before playing in the Leigh Roundup tournament Friday and Saturday.
