The Christopher High baseball team was inches away from victory Wednesday. Instead, Monte Vista Christian held on for a 3-2 win and, with it, created a logjam at the top of the Monterey Bay League standings.

A combination of timely hitting and clutch pitching contributed to the Gilroy Chaos 12-and-under softball team's tournament championship at the Spring Fling at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Manteca last weekend.

After pole vaulting to a personal-best 13-feet, 9-inches at last Thursday's dual meet against Salinas, senior Luis Magana had it mind to literally raise the bar. Magana set his sights on 14-feet – and he had two chances to do it during a busy weekend at the track for select members of the Gilroy High track and field team.

Despite committing five errors and allowing eight hits, the San Benito High baseball team beat Gilroy 9-4 Friday to with its sixth-straight Tri-County Athletic League game.

The meet location is different, but don't expect anything less than stellar performances at Friday's 34th annual Top 8 Invitational hosted by Los Gatos High School.

For the duration of the season, a must-win situation will present itself every time the Gilroy High baseball team takes the field. A rocky start to the year has presented the Mustangs with no other choice but to look up and leave nothing behind.
