Prep Roundup: Oct. 23

GILROY—Katelyn Viray knocked down 15 kills, lifting the Cougars to a 3-0 win over Monterey Thursday on the road. Viray also had 16 digs and an ace.

Prep Roundup: Oct. 22

Gilroy’s Monica Ruelas finished second in the Monterey Bay League Pacific Center Meet No. 3 at Pinto Lake, but not by much. The junior Mustang finished just 10 seconds behind the first place finisher, Leslie Oseguera of Monterey, to complete the course in 20:48.91

South Valley teams squared off in the 2015 Dig Pink volleyball tournament Oct. 17 at Gavilan College.

Christopher beat Gilroy 37-14 in the 6th annual Severance Bowl Oct. 16 at Christopher High School.

GILROY—The Christopher tennis team’s newer players got a chance to show off their skills Thursday against Pajaro Valley, and they rose to the occasion.

Prep Football: Cougars claim 5th Severance Bowl win

GILROY—The Cougars have been dealt several inconsistencies this season. The loss of their head coach, injuries to standout players and the struggles of playing in the Gabilan Division have thrown a wrench in their year, but at least one thing has stayed the same. The Severance Bell is still theirs.

Prep Football: CHS, GHS meet in Severance Bowl

GILROY—Tonight, football will both unite Gilroy and divide it. Gilroyans will have to pick a side as the Mustangs and Cougars clash in the 6th annual Severance Bowl game, held at Christopher High School for the first time.

Prep Volleyball: North Salinas tops Gilroy 3-0

No matter what Gilroy did, it just couldn’t shake off the Vikings. The Mustangs held sizable leads in the first two sets of Thursday night’s contest, but North Salinas came back both times to win in straight sets 26-24, 25-23, 25-18 at Gilroy High.

Gilroy girls tennis snapped a four-game losing streak after beating Watsonville 6-1 Tuesday at home.

Prep Golf: Gilroy edges Cougars in crosstown match

GILROY—If it weren’t for their uniforms, it would be hard to tell the players from Gilroy and Christopher High schools apart. The Cougars and Mustangs interacted like teammates during their Thursday match at Gavilan College. To them, it was just like playing a round with friends.
