GILROY—This year’s 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup soccer tournament features not one, but two former Mustangs.

SALINAS—Six Gilroyans earned their place on the 2015 Monterey Bay League Boys Volleyball All-League Teams.

HOLLISTER—As Tania Sauer made her way around the track at San Benito High School, special education students called out for her with smiles beaming across their faces.

GILROY—Cougar athletes Haley Romero, Jordan Rodriguez and Vanessa Koontz are starting to peak and they couldn’t do it at a better time.

The Gilroy and Christopher gymnastics team stole the spotlight at league finals.

Christopher ended the regular season on a high note, beating Monterey 7-5 Thursday at home. 

Each week recognize one area male and female athlete for their performance on the field of play. This week's are:

GILROY—Christopher’s Natalie Gutierrez and Cody Oberlander along with Gilroy’s Nicole Holder and Tim Van Horn have been jumping together for along time. The quartet all attended middle school at Ascension Solorsano, where they helped each other develop their respective skills in the high jump.

The season came to a close for two local teams Tuesday as both found themselves eliminated from the postseason. 

GILROY— Pink balloons floated in the Christopher dugout during Tuesday’s game at Gilroy High. The Cougars wore pink socks and eye black and players from both sides donned pink bows in their hair—and did it for Natalia Salcido.
