GILROY—Gilroy and Notre Dame went basket-for-basket with each other all night—until the Mustangs silenced the Spirits in the fourth quarter.

GILROY—Being down a key player didn’t stop the Gilroy girls basketball team from opening the Mustang Classic Tournament with a bang.

GILROY—Losing six seniors can be a huge blow to a team—but not if the team happens to be the Gilroy wrestling squad.

Gilroy and Watsonville battled for 80 minutes, but needed extra time to decide a winner. 

The Gilroy girls basketball team started its season off on the right foot. 

GILROY—On paper, there are a lot question marks surrounding Gilroy’s squad heading into the season. It graduated seven seniors and really only has one big man on the roster. It’s a young team, made up of mostly juniors and sophomores. But there’s an abundance of things you don't see on paper—and the Mustangs are more than happy to surprise their opponents.

GILROY—Heading into last season Gilroy had won seven straight league titles. It had all the pieces in place and was ready to clear space in the gym for another banner. But for the Mustangs, last season was a nightmare dressed as a daydream.

GILROY—Armando Padilla overlooked his team practicing and he shook his head, smiling at the thought of the upcoming season. 

GILROY—Last year, Christopher’s Olivia Tabron was snubbed of a First Team honor and made it her goal not to let it happen again.

GILROY—When looking back at the Cougars season, the question isn’t what they did this year, but rather what didn’t they?
