GILROY—As far as Gilroy High is concerned, the last four weeks don’t matter. The Mustangs want to put their preseason struggles behind them and focus on the task at hand: their Monterey Bay League-Pacific Division opponents.

STOCKTON—Dani Hemeon caught herself cheering on her cousin, Emma Leach, and had to stop herself. Under normal circumstances, she’d be rooting for her as loud as anyone, but Sept. 14 was anything but normal.

Gilroy headed into Wednesday's match with Trinity with only two girls and Coach Daniel Valdez left with a great sense of pride. 

The Christopher girls tennis team was one win away from beating Monte Vista Christian and it all came down to the No. 3 doubles match. 

North Salinas snapped Christopher's three game winning streak by handing it a 5-1 loss Monday on the road. 

GILROY—All the other matches had wrapped up, but Christopher’s Adena Chen and Gilroy’s Jessica Martin weren’t quite finished with each other yet.

All the hard work Gilroy put in over the summer looks to have paid off.

SAN MATEO—The Cougars had to battle not only Hillsdale, but the wind, too—and they didn’t let either get the best of them.

GILROY—The Mustangs held their heads high as they walked off the field at the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex Friday night. The scoreboard illuminated the final in the distance—a 40-17 loss to Piedmont Hills—but in their hearts, they were the winners.

If the Christopher High boys water polo team ends up winning the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division championship this season, it will look back to Thursday’s match against host San Benito as the one that catapulted it to title glory.
