The Gilroy boys golf team picked up its best finish of the past two seasons, taking third at the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division match at Pajaro Valley Golf Course Tuesday.

Christopher set a tone early against Sobrato and didn’t let up in a 38-0 season opening victory Friday night.

Entering their second year at the varsity level, players on the Christopher High boys varsity basketball team weren’t shy in setting lofty goals for the 2011-12 season. If you ask them, the more expectation, the merrier.

The Gilroy High volleyball team pushed its league unbeaten set streak to 18 straight with a 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12 victory over Tri-County Athletic League cross division opponent Carmel on Tuesday night in Gilroy.

Like she has done over and over again in practice this season, Merrett Brown received a pass at the left elbow, squared herself to the hoop and let loose. Though it was a bit different Wednesday night. This time, a boisterous, raucous crowd flooded the Christopher High gym with chants and cheers, there were 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the program’s first league title hung in the balance.
