Shasta College handed Gavilan its first defeat of the season, topping the Rams 43-19 on Saturday in Redding.

The Gavilan College men’s soccer team evened its nonconference record with a 3-0 victory over visiting Butte College on Friday in Gilroy.

For what it’s worth, it was just the first game. And that, really, sums up what happened and didn’t happen for the Gilroy High football team in its 35-21 loss to Live Oak last week.

Christopher High football head coach Tim Pierleoni said each and every game this season will be a learning experience. After last week’s defeat to Sobrato, Pierleoni had plenty of notes to sort through in preparation for tonight’s head to head with Live Oak High School.

Christopher High’s Tiffany Roberts and Yvonne AuYeung came back from a set down to claim a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory at No. 1-doubles, but Watsonville’s singles play proved to be the difference in a Wildcatz 5-2 win over the Cougars on Thursday.

The Christopher High varsity field hockey team challenged another stout nonleague opponent and salvaged its second tie of the week, this time playing all square, 0-0, with Willow Glen on Thursday in Gilroy.

The Gavilan college men’s soccer team dropped a pair of close matches over the weekend.
