SOFTBALL: GHS falls to Presentation, splits games this week
Just a pair of games on the docket this week sat in front of the Gilroy High softball team. After the dust of what proved to be a whirlwind week of sorts settled, the Mustangs evened their Tri-County Athletic League mark at 2-2 with an 11-0 nod over Everett Alvarez in five innings on Tuesday. However, the turn to the weekend didn’t go as smoothly as GHS dropped a 4-3 decision to nonleague opponent and West Catholic Athletic League representative Presentation on Thursday.
PREP: Division alignment set for winter sports teams
Gilroy and Christopher high winter sports teams - basketball, soccer and wrestling - will have to contend with a few new counterparts come the 2012-13 season as the prep athletics alignment process took another step forward with the finalization of division placement into the reconfigured Monterey Bay League super conference.
VOLLEYBALL: GHS out of sync in loss to Monterey
The Gilroy High boys volleyball team knew it had to contend with Monterey High kill leader, Stephen Dorsey. That challenge isn't new to the Mustangs or any opponent, really. Dorsey, a state meet medalist in the high jump last season, will get his points. He registered an unassuming 17 kills in an otherwise even matchup between the Tri-County Athletic League's last two league champions Tuesday night.
TUESDAY ROUNDUP: CHS, GHS softball teams pick up league wins
The Christopher High softball team took another step forward in distancing itself from the rest of the Monterey Bay League on Tuesday, swinging past Seaside 13-3 to improve to 5-0 in league action.
SOFTBALL: Gavilan bests Mission, 8-0
Having lost five of its last seven outings, the Gavilan College softball team earned the pick-me-up it needed, sending off visiting Mission College 8-0 in six innings Tuesday in Gilroy.
BASEBALL: Behind Adams, Gavilan silences Hartnell
Gavilan College pitcher Shea Adams said he woke up Monday morning feeling a bit under the weather. After his masterpiece on the bump Monday afternoon, Hartnell College hitters probably wished the right hander had stayed in bed and far, far away from the field.
TRACK: Avis Kelley Invitational postponed
Windy and rainy weather forced meet organizers to postpone the 42nd annual Avis Kelley Track and Field Invitational on Saturday morning.

If there was an ideal time for the Christopher High girls track and field team to defeat North Monterey County, head coach Jeff Myers said he felt Thursday in Gilroy was it.
