Gilroy sweeps to state title
The Little League Minor softball team won the state championship in Madera, going 8-0 through out the All Star tournament. Gilroy was 2-0 against San Jose in the district tournament and went 3-0 in Martinez at the Section tourney. In sections, Gilroy beat American Canyon 12-1, East County from Brentwood 6-5, and beat East County 13-0 for the title. From there Gilroy moved on to Madera for State championships defeating Consumnes River from Sacramento 7-2, Sutter Butte from Chico area 10-9 and again 15-8 to win State. This was the first time ever the girls Minors went undefeated on a run all the way through state.
Gilroy gets warmed up for season
Gilroy got a taste of postseason success a year ago and has been training this past Spring and through the summer thus far to not only get more of that success, but to advance even further.
Training for bigger and better
Gavilan College women’s basketball announced the signing of four players to four-year universities. The playoff qualifying team did so thanks in no small part to the four players who helped solidify one of the stand out seasons for the Rams, but also helped to usher in a new group of freshmen who will take over the program next year as sophomores.
Gilroy 11s take District 59 Little League title
The 11-year-old Gilroy Little League All Star team defeated Milpitas 11-1 to win the District 59 All Star Championship.

Alex Cornejo of Live Oak High School caught what proved to be the game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, which clinched a tie for the 13-13 for the South as a squad of South Valley football standouts played under the big lights at Levi’s Stadium Saturday Night at the annual Wedemeyer All-Star Football game.
