SAN JOSE – A full house, 17,562 fans at SAP Center at San Jose, came away happy Wednesday night as the Sharks opened the 2016-7 NHL season with a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

On its first play from scrimmage, San Benito found the end zone when Hunter Raquet hooked up with Adam Mendoza for a 22-yard touchdown. That pretty much summed up the Haybalers’ 45-0 win over Christopher Friday in a Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division contest.

Hartnell had two 100-yard rushers against Gavilan en route to a 44-14 win at Gilroy High School Saturday.

Gilroy fell in a tie breaker to Monte Vista Christian on Wednesday, with MVC taking the match thanks to the score of its sixth player.

SALINAS—Gilroy stopped Alisal on its opening drive on a three and out. The ensuing punt was bobbled and the Trojans turned it into a quick 6-0 lead.

SALINAS—Christopher couldn’t get anything going offensively against Salinas and ultimately fell 35-3 to open Gabilan Division play.

Water Polo

Christopher fell in its final non-league contest, 39-9 at Woodside, falling behind early and failing to capitalize on some opportunities in the game.

Gavilan suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Los Medanos College 27-15 Saturday.

For the second year in a row, Live Oak has run the table against the three South County teams after defeating Gilroy 53-27 Friday.
