St. Mary School, in partnership with St. Joseph Family Center and as part of the school’s annual walkathon this year, collected new or gently used athletic shoes that will be distributed to the youth in the Gilroy area.

The shoe drive is held through Oct. 26, which is the day of St. Mary School’s Fourth Annual Walk-a-thon. Students and staff will be walking from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the school field.

The goal of the walkathon is to raise money for the school and boost awareness of the importance of physical fitness and good nutrition. Last year, collectively, students and faculty walked more than 1,329 miles and raised over $71,000.

The first 50 children to donate three or more pairs of athletic shoes each will receive a St. Mary School walkathon cowbell.
