Santa Clara County Library District kicked off their summer reading program June 1, which encourages people of all ages to read for pleasure during the lazy, hot months of June, July and August.
“Quite often reading for pleasure takes a back seat because of demanding academic workloads and ever-increasing media options,” said Nancy Howe, Santa Clara County head librarian. “Summer reading programs are a way to take your family back in time, to browse the bounty on the library shelves, borrow a variety of books that speak to you, to explore other perspectives, and to simply have fun.”
Children ages 0-12 can participate in “Dig Into Reading,” and are invited to attend performances and craft projects at the library, and earn prizes for reading. Teens and adults are invited to join “Beneath the Surface,” and attend programs and write book reviews to share their progress. By reading five books, teens and adults are entered in a drawing to win a Nexus Google Tablet or an iPad Mini.
County residents can join the fun by registering online at www.sccl.org or in person at any district library.
