Dear Editor:
I’d like to share with you and your readers an opportunity where you can help us maintain the high quality athletic programs that are provided at Gilroy High School.
Athletic and activity programs support the academic mission of schools. They are not a diversion but rather an extension of a good educational program. Students who participate in athletic and activity programs tend to have higher grade-point averages, better attendance records, lower dropout rates and fewer discipline problems than students generally. These programs provide valuable lessons for practical situations – teamwork, sportsmanship, winning and losing, and hard work. Through participation in these programs, students learn self-discipline, build self-confidence and develop skills to handle competitive situations.
For the past 23 years, the Gilroy High School Athletic Association has put on our Annual Crab Cioppino Feed and Dance to help offset the cost of transportation for our programs. The 24th event will be held on May 8 at Christopher Ranch in Gilroy and will feature music by the Joe Sharino Band.
We need your help in making this year’s event a huge success and here’s how you can partner with us to make that happen.
• Join us as a Business Sponsor of the event. A variety of programs are available that include signage, table top displays and ticket packages.
• Make a financial or “in kind” donation to underwrite expenses.
• Plan on joining us for the evening. Individual tickets can be purchased at the school from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. on weekdays or online at www.gilroyhighschool.com Tickets are $40 per person (21 and over only).
If you can help or would like more information, please contact me at jd****@*********ca.us or at 848-7178.
