Two burglary suspects were arrested as they tried to get away from a home from which they attempted to steal a refrigerator, police said.

A resident of the 17000 block of Raccoon Court saw two men carrying the appliance out of the home next-door about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Morgan Hill Police Capt. Joe Sampson. The home was boarded up, and had received major damage when it caught on fire October 2010.

The neighbor asked the two men what they were doing there, Sampson said. The burglars became “spooked,” and left the home, which is in the Holiday Lake community, without taking the refrigerator or any other items with them.

The burglars left the area in a silver Nissan pickup, police said. An officer saw the truck as it was traveling west on East Dunne Avenue, down the hill before Hill Road.

Police stopped the truck and arrested the two occupants, Sampson said.

Arrested on suspicion of burglary were Raul Catano, 43 of Morgan Hill, and his passenger, Milton Forest, 54 of San Jose.

Catano was also on parole for a previous narcotics violation, Sampson said. Forest was also arrested on a $5,000 warrant from San Jose for driving under the influence of alcohol.

No stolen items were found in the suspects’ vehicle, police said.

Sampson credited the arrests to the cooperation of the law-abiding neighbor.

“Thanks to good community watch, we were able to catch a couple burglars. That’s a great help to us,” Sampson said.
