A South County regional SWAT team arrested a convicted felon who has “a propensity for violence” and previously had been deported to Mexico Wednesday morning in Gilroy, according to police.

SWAT officers from the Gilroy and Morgan Hill police departments arrested Justino Garcia, 35, in the 800 block of El Cerrito Way one day after police were notified of a sexual assault and domestic violence incident there, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Garcia was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, carrying a concealed firearm, a felon in possession of firearm and possession of a methamphetamine.

His 8 a.m. arrest Wednesday stemmed from a incident reported the previous night.

On Tuesday, a victim told police she had been assaulted in the 800 block of El Cerrito Way. The victim, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, told police the suspect was in possession of a firearm, according to the GPD. Police tabbed Garcia as the suspect following a preliminary investigation.

An investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be sought by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, according to the GPD.
