Taylor, Ayala approved for new GUSD posts
Gilroy – The contracts for Darrel Taylor as the interim superintendent and Marilyn Ayala as the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction were approved Thursday night.
Tom Bundros, president of Gilroy Unified School District, said of Taylor, “I’ve been able to speak to him a number of times and he always expresses his delight in being able to come to Gilroy.”
Bundros said Taylor told him he might find it difficult arriving in Gilroy by March 7. His contract does not start until March 9, but he was to arrive early so that he would have three days of overlap with the current superintendent, Edwin Diaz, whose last day with the GUSD is scheduled for March 9. Should Taylor be unable to arrive in Gilroy in time, he would speak with Diaz over the phone until the start of his contract.
Ayala is currently the principal for Glen View Elementary School. She will continue at this position until July 1 and, starting March 1, will also assume the duties of her new position. The current assistant superintendent, Olivia Schaad, is retiring.
