community GUSD teachers whose students have made significant
growth, and increased the proficiency levels on the California
Standards Test.
Dear Editor,
I would like to acknowledge the staff of the Dispatch for publishing the first article, “Astounding Results”, in a series recognizing the accomplishments of teachers in the Gilroy Unified School District. Each article will highlight for our community GUSD teachers whose students have made significant growth, and increased the proficiency levels on the California Standards Test.
Our School Board recently honored these individuals and grade level teams as recipients of the Academic Excellence Award, part of our district’s recognition program.
The team of third-grade teachers at Glen View School is one example in our district of effective practice combined with hard work and dedication required to produce these tremendous gains in student achievement. The reporter, Heather Bremner, captured the ingredients to their success. She wrote, “What works for the Glen View teachers is a mixture of constant communication, consistency, complete trust, regular tweaking and tailoring to ensure the lessons fit each unique student and attention to data.”
These teachers exemplify the goals our district has established, which are attainable at all of our schools. I applaud the Dispatch for placing a spotlight on the teaching profession, highlighting their extraordinary results.
