A 19-year-old male sitting on a railroad tie was struck by a train just south of Leavesley Road Sunday afternoon.

His injuries were not considered life threatening, police reported.

The teen was wearing ear phones and apparently did not hear the approaching northbound freight train about 3:43 p.m., despite repeated horn signals, police said. The conductor was unable to stop the train, and the train’s “cow guard” struck the teen in the torso as it passed before coming to a complete stop. His name was not available at press time.

He was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition was unknown Monday afternoon.
