TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

The Christopher High girls varsity tennis team had wins in two of four singles matches but were shut out in doubles play in a 5-2 loss to Alisal on Tuesday in Salinas.

Cougars’ No. 1 singles player Emily Barham (6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 player Nubia Cruz (7-5, 7-5) secured Christopher’s two team points.

At No. 2 singles, Shelby O’Hara jumped ahead after a first-set win, but was forced to play a third-set tiebreak after dropping the second. Alisal’s Thalia Espinoza outlasted O’Hara in that winner-take-all situation and the match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

The Cougars host Monte Vista Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m.
