Defeating its TCAL opponents 5-2, the Mustangs took all three doubles matches in straight sets and moved the team’s overall record to 1-1.
No. 1 singles player Mischelle Tajan beat Anabel Quintero 6-3 in both sets, winning her first career match as a Mustang. GHS’ No.3 player, Amy Huang, also won in straight sets, defeating Cindy Leong 6-0, 6-2.
The Mustangs two defeats came in singles play as Emily Castro in her second third-set tiebreaker of the year 7-6, 4-6 (5-10). No. 4 player Gories Kwong played her first match of the season, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Brady Saldang.
No. 1 doubles partners Holly Hunter and Karissa Tellez beat Victoria King and Nancy Tiznado 6-2, 6-1, the No. 2 pair of Kim Johnson and Natalie Toews won 6-4, 6-3 over Amanda Salazar and Cynthia Rodriguiz 6-4, 6-3 and the No. 3 team of Anneliese Zelina and Melanie Morelos defeated Claudia Alvarez and Alma Vergara 6-3, 6-1.
“It was very windy and the girls played well, especially Kim Johnson and Natalie Toews who were down in the first set 0-4 and game back to win 6 games in a row to win the set,” GHS coach Jami Reynolds said in an email. “I am very proud of all the girls, they went out and played their game despite the windy conditions.”
