TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

Windy weather was no help to the Christopher High boys tennis team’s effort against host Everett Alvarez in a 5-2 league loss on Tuesday.
The Cougars picked up team points at No. 3-singles, as Jeff Kong quieted Jose Ramirez (6-1, 6-1,  and at No. 2-doubles, where Josh Hernandez and Destin Cockcroft beat Gabriel Perez and Sebastian Sandovel (7-6, 6-3.)
Two other close matches tipped in the Eagles’ direction, though CHS head coach Patrick McBrearty said those could have gone either way. One such match was at No. 2-singles. Christopher’s Veasna Khay led after one set but tweaked a back muscle in the second. He continued on, only to drop that second set and the third-set tiebreaker. At No. 3-doubles, Matt Lombardo and Geoffry He had a point in sight, narrowly losing 6-4, 6-4.
