Motors as far as you could see

Thousands of police officers and Gilroyans lined the streets Tuesday to salute the motorcade carrying the body of fallen motorcycle officer Michael Katherman, who was killed on duty June 14 when a minivan struck his motorcycle at 4:22 p.m. in San Jose.
Despite the heat, people took to the streets carrying flags and holding up posters as a row of motorcycles and police cars stretched as far as the eye can see down First Street.
The procession started at a memorial service at San Jose’s SAP center and arrived in Gilroy after 2 p.m., where the officer was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Gavilan Hills Cemetery.
It was an emotional moment, as well-wishers thanked officers along the streets for their service and some wept as the motorcade passed.
