The public can get their fill of meetings concerning South County water today – three public hearings are scheduled.

At 9:30 a.m., the Santa Clara Valley Water District will discuss the no-rate increase of groundwater charges at a public hearing at 5750 Almaden Expressway in San Jose. The board will go over the rate-setting process, their plans to increase fiscal responsibility and projections for groundwater charges over the next 10 years.

The government agency says it is working to reduce spending, including the elimination of 57 jobs in the last two years, 56 of which were not filled.

At 6 p.m., the water district’s redistricting committee meets for the final time before their recommendations for redrawing district boundaries is sent to the board for a decision on April 27. Eight maps are in consideration, two of which will be presented tonight in the water board headquarters on Almaden. The meeting is scheduled to end at 8 p.m. To view the maps, go to valleywater.org/about/redistricting.

At 7 p.m., the San Martin Neighborhood Alliance will meet San Martin Lion’s Club Hall until 9 p.m. to answer any questions about how to protest the groundwater charges – an option for well owners only. If 51 percent of roughly 4,000 well owners in South County mail in their protest letter by April 27 to the water board, groundwater fees will be eliminated. That item of discussion will come after a presentation about the Fry’s Open golf tournament in October at CordeValle and logistics for parking and traffic that weekend.
