Nelson sinks four treys in 75-55 loss to San Jose
SAN JOSE – Despite sinking eight three-pointers – including four via freshman guard Erik Nelson – the Gavilan College men’s basketball team could not get out of its funk Wednesday, falling 75-55 to San Jose City College.

Nelson, a Gilroy High alum, and sophomore point guard Jimmy Herrera, a Live Oak High grad, both finished with a team-high 14 points. Freshman guard Steve Silacci added 12 points and freshman forward Jimmy Cheatum netted 11 points.

Gavilan (0-6 in conference, 3-22 overall) fell behind by 15 at 35-20 by the break and were outscored 40-35 in the second half.

San Jose City boosted its record to 22-7 overall and 3-3 in conference.

The Rams will hit the road next for a Feb. 15 game against Hartnell at 7 p.m. before returning home for a Feb. 19 game against West Valley at 7 p.m.
