Gilroy High’s softball team’s regular-season finale was spoiled by walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh in a 5-4 road loss to Salinas on Thursday.

Despite the setback, the Mustangs (12-12 overall, 6-6 Tri-County Athletic League), who have played in three of the last four Central Coast Section Division I championship games, should again receive a seed into the postseason. Tuesday’s victory over North Salinas guaranteed the Mustangs their .500 league record – a criteria needed for a playoff selection.

• Christopher High took on host Mountain View in a make up game from earlier this season and came up with a 4-2 victory Thursday.

Kayla Medrano had a pair of hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Kristen Dennis, Kaslin Ettema and Aly Olvera each had two hits. Olvera picked up the victory in the circle.

The Cougars (19-7 overall) clinched a share of the Monterey Bay League title Tuesday. They share it with Monterey, which defeated Seaside 13-0 on Thursday. Both teams will await their CCS fate. Seedings come out Saturday.

BASEBALL

A three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh wasn’t enough as the Gilroy High baseball team dropped its season finale at home to Alvarez on Thursday.

The Mustangs (5-17 overall, 3-15 Tri-County Athletic League) bid farewell to five seniors, who played their final game in a GHS uniform.

Of the five was shortstop BuBu Garcia – a two time first-team selection his sophomore and junior season and the league reigning Most Valuable Player. Jordan Dexter, a three-year varsity starter, Ryan Alba, Justin Nelson and Jose Betancourt were also honored.

GHS will not be a postseason participant for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
