A hearing to set a trial date for three people accused in the October 2010 kidnapping of two men and forcing them to jump off a Hecker Pass bridge was delayed more than a month, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

Catrina Cameron, 23, Tamaya Duenas, 23, and Nathaniel Garcia, 22, were expected to hear the start date of their trial Thursday afternoon, but the hearing was delayed until June 2 to allow attorneys from both sides to be present, said Amy Cornell, media coordinator for the district attorney’s office.

The three accused are facing charges of attempted premeditated murder and kidnapping to commit robbery. The charges potentially carry life sentences, according to Steve Lowney, deputy district attorney.

Lowney said that efforts to reach a plea deal had been unsuccessful. Deputy District Attorney Dana Overstreet is the case’s lead prosecutor but could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to court documents, Cameron, Garcia and Duenas lured Jose Hernandez and Fernando Aguilar into Duenas’ apartment Oct. 25, 2010.

The three defendants were waiting with guns and knives and stole the victims’ cell phones, jewelry and wallets, according to police. They then kidnapped the victims in Hernandez’s truck and forced the two to make cash withdrawals of $500 and $600 from ATMs, according to police.

The victims then were bound, blindfolded and driven to Sprig Lake off Hecker Pass Road in unincorporated Gilroy where they were allegedly pushed off the 15-foot bridge, according to police.

According to GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao, the victims’ injuries were not life-threatening and they were able to call police at 5:32 a.m. Oct. 25.
