If you haven’t heard, Gavilan is putting on a huge festival entitled “Gav Fest” Saturday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. here on campus.

The event is open to the public, and features live music and theater performances, arts & crafts, as well as cardboard boat races in the pool (something I’ve only heard about, and am curious to see first-hand!). Apparently the festival is truly taking over Gavilan, with events happening all over the campus. Community members can hop from one activity to another, depending on their interests.

The festival will actually start the night before with the “Bach to Blues” show, at 7:30 p.m.

Performers include local blues guitar guru John Garcia, and Nate Pruitt & Primary Colors. If you haven’t heard Nate belt out the tunes, you’re missing something special.

To find out more about the Bach to Blues event, you can watch Art is Essential this week and next on GAV-TV Channel 18, airing daily at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Host Fran Lozano interviews Nate Pruitt and other Bach to Blues guests about their history in the music business, and the show at Gavilan.

Bach to Blues is a benefit for the Gavilan College Music Department, so believe me folks, it’s money well spent.

The reason I’m excited about Gav Fest (besides the fact that it sounds like a lot of fun), is that GAV-TV crews will be doing some live coverage on CMAP’s Channel 18 during the day.

GAV-TV Executive Producer Marilyn Abad-Cardinalli and her Gav-TV Crew will be taking over the channel from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on April 24.

Live studio coverage will include guests from Nightmare on Bourbon street, Lori Gray’s dance studio, MACSA Youth performances, and STAR Program instructors, just to name a few. No doubt it will be an action packed two hours.

In addition, teams of videographers will be shooting segments of Gav Fest activities happening simultaneously on campus, and live studio hosts will be introducing that footage for you to see. The idea is to entice you the viewer to take a drive to Gavilan and see what this community resource has to offer. So be sure to tune in April 24 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. for Gav Fest coverage on cable channel 18, or better yet, some on down and check out the festival in person!
