Two dead in Highway 101 Collision

Two Watsonville men died and a toddler sustained major injuries in a crash on Highway 101 Sunday at 10:32 p.m.
The accident happened south of Castro Valley Road, north of Highway 25. CHP officers found a sedan on its roof in the slow lane.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2006 Nissan allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway and drive on the dirt center median east of US-101 southbound.
The driver then over-corrected to the right, lost control of the vehicle, and caused it to collide with a dirt hillside west of US101 southbound causing a large dirt cloud to envelope the roadway.  The 2006 Nissan subsequently overturned and came to rest on its roof, blocking the right lane of US101 southbound, facing a northerly direction.
The driver of a 2017 Honda observed the large dirt cloud and slowed his vehicle believing it to be fog.  As he entered the dirt cloud, he observed the 2006 Nissan ahead of him and swerved to the left, but was unable to prevent the right side of his vehicle from colliding with the left side of the 2006 Nissan.  Two parties sustained fatal injuries, one sustained major injuries, and one was transported as a precaution for medical evaluation.
