Popular First Street coffee house was closed Sunday
Gilroy – Two Starbucks employees were taken to Saint Louise Medical Center Saturday after complaining of general weakness, Gilroy fire officials said, and the popular coffee shop at 795 First St., was closed Sunday.

According to employees at the adjacent House of Bagels, the store had been having difficulties with its air conditioning unit for several days.

The coffee shop re–opened Monday with four portable air conditioners operating inside.

It is unclear if any air conditioning problems contributed to the illness as Starbucks employees declined to comment and calls to the Starbucks Corporate office went unreturned.

The call came in to the Gilroy Fire Department at 7:43pm Saturday and paramedics were sent to the Starbucks in the Nob Hill shopping center.

“We had a couple of people over there get sick,” Capt. Marc Stelling explained. “They were outside waiting for us.”

Due to patient privacy laws no further information was available about their conditions.
