DEAR EDITOR:
In response to J. G. McCormack’s AIDS and homosexuals letter – poor President Bush? Poor J. G. McCormack! Who’s stuck in the ’80s mindset about AIDS? This is 2004. AIDS is a global disease. AIDS is caused by a virus, HIV (human immuno deficiency virus). Note the word human, not homosexual. This disease doesn’t care if your black, white, brown, yellow, bisexual, heterosexual or homosexual.
Fact: HIV is spread through vaginal, oral, or anal sex or from blood-to-blood contact. It can be passed from mother to baby during pregnancy and sometimes during breast feeding.
Fact:: You can’t get HIV or AIDS through the air or by shaking hands or other casual touching.
Fact: I am nether gay nor am I a drug addict, I am a mid-aged female, mother of three girls. My youngest child’s father died while I was five months pregnant. He died from the “opportunistic” infection brought on by AIDS. I now carry the HIV virus. I was able to give birth to a healthy baby due to a lot of wonderful medical professionals.
J. G. McCormack, AIDS is a HUMAN disease not a disease targeting same-sex married couples.
