South Valley’s unsigned teenage bands have a chance to play, compete and possibly win time in a recording studio at the upcoming South Bay’s Battle of the Bands.

The event, which is free to the public, features 10 local bands competing for a day of recording time at Butter Productions in San Francisco.

“I have a son that’s in a garage band, and I know how hard they work and how good they are,” said Becki Darnell, the event’s coordinator. “I have a passion for teens with talent, so I thought it would be fun to give these garage bands a chance to show off, compete and get them out of the garage to have some fun.”

The bands will not only compete musically, they’ll have the chance to show off their music trivia knowledge in certain rounds of the competition.

“I’m hoping a lot of people come out to the event and that these bands get a lot of support,” Darnell said. “We have Mike Sanchez emceeing the event and a bunch of sponsors. If it goes well, we want to make this an annual competition.”

Judges will decide who takes home first place and the recording studio time. Second-place winners will take home gift certificates for various local businesses. Bands featured in the competition include SkuffEnuff, Rock Solid, Reflection, White Ibyss, Refferal, Cyanic Assault, Exhibit A, COF, Living for the End and Ashes, Ashes.
